Sugar Not Just Sugar Anymore

California Agri-Fuels, LLC

Arkel has developed a project model to produce ethanol from sugarcane and sweet sorghum in Southern California. The California Agri-Fuels (CAF) Model involves the construction and operation of an agro-industrial renewable fuels complex in the Imperial Valley of California. CAF is designed to produce 58 million gallons per year of fuel-grade ethanol and co-generate about 35 MW of electricity, of which 25 MW will be available for export to the power grid. In addition the project will produce Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Condensed Molasses Solids (CMS), both of which will bring additional revenue to the project. Production for feedstock will be throughout the Valley with approximately 30,000 acres in sugarcane and 20,000 acres in sweet sorghum.

A detailed feasibility study and preliminary design engineering was completed by Arkel. This project model can be successfully relocated to other areas that have the capability to produce sugarcane and or sweet sorghum.
