Mancamp Power Generation & Distribution Supply, Iraq
The vast majority of the 10,000+ U.S. Marines stationed at Camp Taqqadum ("TQ") were originally billeted in tents. In an effort to provide the troops better and safer accommodations for extended deployments, trailer camps were established.
Arkel was tasked with supplying large prime-power generators (massive 1000kW & 800kW units), more than 45 miles of armored electrical cable, switch-gear, distribution panels, and all other electrical accessories needed to support the electrical needs of the new trailer camps.
This was a critical assignment with an extremely short time-frame allotted for deployment & installation. These two factors, plus the ever-present danger associated with transporting items over-the-road in Iraq, meant that shipping by truck was out of the question.
Arkel chartered multiple cargo planes - IL-76's - to air-lift the items from Dubai (UAE) and Cairo (EGYPT) directly to Camp TQ's air-strip. Obtaining permission for civilian aircraft to land at an USMC-controlled air-base was no small feat and required close coordination with the U.S. military command so as not to interfere with nor compromise on-going combat operations.
Arkel's solid management & logistics plan - and execution of that plan - for this contract enabled Arkel to meet - and beat - the deadlines established by USMC.
