About Us
Corporate Social Responsibility
Arkel's home has been in Baton Rouge, LA for over 50 years. Our roots go deep here and our friends and affiliations are far-reaching. Our success is built on many factors but we feel one that is most significant and that has added to our good name and reputation is the support of our local community. Arkel recognizes that with success comes a social responsibility to give back to the communities in which we work in a positive and lasting way. In Baton Rouge, we support a variety of organizations that include the American Cancer Society, The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, The Baton Rouge General Health Foundation, The Manship Theater at the Shaw Center for the Arts, and others.
While we hire local people to support Baton Rouge commerce and growth, we also hire people from around the country and the world who add diversity-perspectives, skills, knowledge and even cultures-to our homegrown family and business. We like to think that is has benefited us in countless ways.
Arkel International
One of Arkel’s core values is “to make the places we work a little better off after we’ve gone.” We do that in a variety of ways. Our socio-economic approach to hiring in local settings includes “locals first and whenever.” We’re not always able to staff entirely with local nationals, but we do our very best to hire, train and promote within the communities we work so that skills are learned, retained and transferred. Purchasing local is often very difficult in the places Arkel finds itself, but if it can be bought there and meets our standards, we support local commerce whenever and wherever possible. We’ve learned that not only does the support of the indigionous economy help them grow and become more self-sufficient, but it builds the trust and networks we so greatly need to be successful.
As the demand increases for private services and support in underdeveloped, conflict and post-conflict regions of the world, it is vital that organizations performing work in vulnerable locations, operate under the highest standards possible. Arkel and its partners, who often work under contracts funded by the US Governement or other foreign governments have an obligation to safeguard the scarcity of program dollars and consider it our duty to uphold international standards and codes of conduct. We operate under the highest ethical principles and thoroughly vet employees, partners, sub-contractors and independent contractors before engaging in work.
